EDUCATION

  • 1989: master degree in Geological Sciences at the University of Pisa (Italy) by disserting a thesis focused on the calcareous nannofossil biostratigraphy of the Oligocene-Miocene fore-deep flysch of the Northern Apennines.
  • 1993: PhD in Geological Sciences at the University of Padua (Italy) by discussing the thesis: “The late Eocene-early Oligocene calcareous nannofossil biostratigraphy of the Northern Apennines”.
  • 1989-2005: biostratigrapher in the framework of the CARG Project for the Geological Map of Italy.
  • Since 2006: Researcher at the Institute of Geosciences and Earth resources (IGG) of the National Research Council (CNR) in Pisa (Italy).
  • 2007-2010: Responsible for the “Calcareous nannofossil Laboratory” at the Institute of Geosciences and Earth Resources of the National Research Council (CNR) in Pisa (Italy).
  • Since 2011: Responsible for the “Micropaleontology Laboratory” at the Institute of Geosciences and Earth Resources of the National Research Council (CNR) in Pisa (Italy).

PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITY

  • Study of Cretaceous-Pleistocene calcareous nannofossils.
  • Biostratigraphic study of the sedimentary cover of the ophiolitic sequences deposited in the Paleotethys and biostratigraphic study of the Mediterranean and circum-Mediterranean orogenic belts.
  • Quantitative study of calcareous nannofossils aimed at the reconstruction of biostratigraphic regional schemes.
  • Quantitative analysis of calcareous nannofossils in high resolution integrated stratigraphic studies of the Paleogene successions of the Umbria-Marche region (Italy).
  • Paleoclimatic significance of calcareous nannoplankton and response of the calcareous nannofossils to the extreme climates of the Paleogene “greenhouse world” (PETM and EECO).
