A group of the Institute of Geosciences and Earth Resources is hosted by the Earth Science Department of the University of Turin.

The main activity of this group focuses on geological analysis and mapping devoted to the definition of geological models for basic research and thematic applications, such as land management, geo-engineering planning and design of large infrastructures (motorway, tunnels, dams etc...).

The group also studies climatic proxies from the stratigraphic and geomorphologic records in the Quaternary successions, meant as a key for understanding current climate changes.

This group also analyses the complex relationships between Geosphere and Biosphere in the Earth's Critical Zone, that part of the Earth surface where the interactions among rocks, soil, water, air and life establish the availability of resources for the organisms and rule the natural environment itself.

The staff is deeply involved in developing approaches for the management and representation of digital geological data, in order to share geological knowledge with several types of end-user, by means of WebGIS and WebMap Service technologies.
