Jacopo Cabassi of CNR-IGG was elected new co-leader of the Commission on Volcanic Lakes (CVL)

As part of the 11th Commission on Volcanic Lakes (CVL) workshop held in the Azores from 28 August to 5 September 2023, new CVL offices have been elected: Jacopo Cabassi (CNR-IGG) and Agnes Mazot (GNS, New Zealand) are the new co-leaders for the period 2023-2026; while Stefano Fazi (CNR-Irsa) joined the CVL steering committee. The Commission aims to study volcanic lakes with multidisciplinary research approaches. It is a non-profit scientific organisation that is part of the International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth's Interior (IAVCEI), which connects researchers seeking to understand the relationships between volcanic lakes and volcanic activity, its hazards and the natural processes that govern them.

Sixty-seven participants from 16 countries attended the workshop, organised by the local committee of the University of the Azores and the Institute of Volcanology and Risk Assessment (IVAR).
