Climate change is rapidly transforming Arctic ecosystems, making it increasingly urgent to understand the environmental processes at work. The 12 October episode of Presa Diretta, hosted by Riccardo Iacona and entitled “Terra – Ultima Chiamata (Earth – Last Call)”, devoted ample space to the scientific activities carried out on the Svalbard Islands, one of the main outposts for observing global climate change.
The report described the work of Italian researchers studying the signs of change on the Svalbard Islands. Ilaria Baneschi and Linda Franceschi, researchers at the Institute of Geosciences and Earth Resources of the National Research Council (IGG-CNR), presented evidence of changes in the hydrological cycle.
It also explored the role of the CNR's Italian research base in Svalbard, which is managed by the Institute of Polar Sciences (ISP-CNR) and hosts and coordinates multidisciplinary research activities on climate and environmental processes in the Arctic.
