An ARGUS VI Thermo Fisher Scientific has been installed at CNR-IGG in Pisa. The ARGUS VI is a new generation multiple-collector noble gas mass spectrometer, specifically conceived for Ar-Ar geochronology. It is equipped with 6 collectors, a feature that allows the simultaneous acquisition of the 5 Ar isotopes involved in Ar-Ar geochronology. Advantages include much faster analysis and significantly lower analytical uncertainties when compared to previous instruments. The new instrumentation will be used alongside the old MAP215-50 single collector mass spectrometer, still working.
