Evaluation of the geothermal potential of the convergence regions

VIGOR (Evaluation of Geothermal Potential in Convergence Regions) is a four-year project launched in late 2010, coordinated by the CNR-IGG, and dedicated to the comprehensive assessment of geothermal energy and its technological applications in four regions of Southern Italy (Campania, Calabria, Puglia, and Sicily, the "Convergence Regions").

VIGOR's challenge is to expand the use of geothermal heat to economically produce electricity and/or heat using a globally distributed and continuously available renewable resource.

The project's objectives address the need to promote the design and development of integrated intervention models for energy production from renewable sources, as well as the consolidation, growth, and dissemination of information and knowledge that can enable informed decisions by governments and the public.
