TREZZE, TEGNUE, AND MARINE ENVIRONMENTS OF THE UPPER ADRIATIC: MANAGEMENT PROPOSALS (TRETAMARA)

The northern Adriatic features marine and coastal habitats that foster and support significant plant and animal biodiversity, including the biogenic-geogenic outcrops of Friuli Venezia Giulia and Veneto, the dead corallites of Cladocora caespitosa on the Slovenian side, and numerous coastal and littoral SPAs. The results of the Trecorala project (Interreg Ita-Slo 2007-13) have enabled us to assess the ecological status of the geobiogenic formations, which have been recognized as Sites of Community Importance (SCI) due to the presence of priority habitats such as coralligenous and rhodolith and maerl beds. In Slovenia, Cladocora caespitosa formations are included in the marine protected areas "Deblijn Punta Natural Monument" and "Strunjan Nature Park." TRETAMARA aims to capitalize on existing knowledge and promote best management practices, leading to the drafting of a document that supports, where it is lacking, the preparation of management plans for coastal and marine SCIs, contributing to the harmonization of management plans across the Northern Adriatic. It also proposes national and transnational guidelines for the integrated management of marine-coastal habitats of high ecological value, including through targeted, highly innovative actions.
