SOSTENERE – Technical support for cross-border cooperation for the sustainable management of the Senegal-Mauritania Aquifer Basin (BASM)
The SOSTENERE project provides technical and scientific support for the sustainable management of groundwater resources in the Senegal-Mauritania Aquifer Basin (BASM), a strategic transboundary system for several West African countries.
Through data integration and harmonization, the development of shared information systems, monitoring activities, and hydrogeological modeling, the project contributes to improving knowledge of the aquifer system and supporting evidence-based decisions.
Special attention is paid to strengthening local technical capacities and international cooperation, with the aim of promoting coordinated, sustainable, and resilient management of water resources.
