The Secondary Branch of the Institute of Geosciences and Earth Resources (IGG) of Padua will be located within the Padua Territorial Research Area starting in June 2024.
Previously, the Branch was housed at the University of Padua, where it operated since 1947 under the name "Center for the Study of Petrography and Geology," subsequently evolving through various names.
Since its early years, the facility has been characterized by laboratories dedicated to chemical analysis, X-ray diffraction, and optical microscopy. The research conducted and supported also included geological-stratigraphic research. Over time, the scientific endowment has been further enriched with the establishment of renowned mass spectrometry, electron microscopy, and electron microprobe laboratories.
For many years, the activities conducted by CNR staff and laboratories have represented a point of reference for the geosciences scientific community, both at the university and within the CNR itself. The close collaboration between the various research institutions has generated important synergies and significant mutual benefits.
Currently, the IGG headquarters in Padua has 12 researchers, working in numerous fields of geoscience and involved in scientific collaborations of national and international importance.
