Server Room

The Laboratory

The CNR-IGG in Pisa has a small server room, dedicated to supporting research activities and carrying out the Institute's projects. The room houses exclusively rack-mount servers, designed to ensure reliability and operational continuity.

Instruments

Each machine or cluster is associated with a specific research project, with a defined duration, allowing for flexible and efficient management of resources over time.

Some of the servers use virtualization technologies, which allow multiple work environments to be hosted on the same physical hardware.

Access to machines and resources is regulated according to the Institute's policies. Activities within the server room are governed by specific regulations and coordinated by the server room manager, with whom all interventions must be agreed upon in advance.

The server room is equipped with environmental monitoring and security systems, including climate control. Specifically, it features a redundant air conditioning system and systems to ensure power continuity, including uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) and generators. Fire prevention systems, power metering, and non-recording video surveillanceare also installed , used exclusively for operational monitoring when necessary.

In addition to the resources dedicated to projects, the server room also hosts common Institute services, to support organizational activities
