    REGIONAL PROJECTS “LaMMA” (funded by the Tuscany Region)

    Since 2005, the Institute of Geosciences and Earth Resources has collaborated with the LaMMA Consortium on research projects funded by the Tuscany Region and aimed at deepening and developing knowledge of the region's geology. Over the years, the topics addressed have primarily concerned the protection and safeguarding of water resources through the geological, hydrodynamic, and geochemical characterization of regional groundwater systems, the definition of regional geochemical baseline values, and slope stability. Numerous geothematic databases have been established as a result of these activities.

    Currently, under a framework agreement with the LaMMA Consortium, IGG is coordinating and implementing six projects regarding:

    1) study of the volcanology of Monte Amiata (southern Tuscany) and drafting of a monograph;
    2) implementation of numerical flow models for regional aquifer systems located in porous media and deepening knowledge of water bodies located in sandstones of the Apennine foredeep successions;
    3) development of functions for the geostatistical analysis of structured data in the Regional Geochemical Database (Geobases) and definition of an operational protocol for determining background levels (in collaboration with UNIFI, UNIPI and UNISI);
    4 creation of a micropaleontological database for the regional surface, containing information on depositional ages and paleoenvironments, and definition of relationships with similar data contained in the Subsoil Database of the Tuscany Region (in collaboration with UNISI);
    5) geological-technical study of surface deposits and regionalized estimation of susceptibility to shallow landslides; development of a regional lithotechnical database; creation of the Geomorphological Database of the Tuscany Region (in collaboration with UNISI);
    6) establishment of the Database of Underground Water Bodies of the Tuscany Region and its publication within the regional Geographic Infrastructure.
