IMAGE (Integrated Methods for Advanced Geothermal Exploration)

IMAGE (Integrated Methods for Advanced Geothermal Exploration) is a European project co-funded for four years (November 1, 2013 – October 31, 2017) by the European Commission under the 7th Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development (2007-2013). The project involves 19 partners from nine different countries, including research institutions, universities, and companies active in the geothermal sector in Europe.
IMAGE aims to explore and evaluate geothermal reservoirs using a multidisciplinary approach based on three general concepts: understanding the processes and properties that control the spatial distribution of critical exploration parameters at European and local levels; improving existing investigation techniques and testing innovative geological, geophysical, and geochemical methodologies capable of providing more reliable information on critical parameters in subsurface exploration; Demonstration of the added value of an integrated and multidisciplinary approach to site characterization, based on conceptual advances, improved models and parameters, and exploration techniques developed within the project.
