Expanding geothermal energy use in Europe

The GEOTHERM-FORA project is a European project funded by the Horizon Europe program (GA 101075400), which aims to support and strengthen geothermal systems forums for research and innovation. The Deep Geothermal Implementation Working Group (DG-IWG) and the Deep Geothermal Platform (ETIP-DG) work together and are interconnected. Support for both forums aims to strengthen the development of new geothermal technologies to penetrate the market and achieve our 2030 and 2050 climate and energy targets, in a joint agreement between the sector: industry, research, and public authorities.

The overall objective is to optimize the work of both forums, ETIP-DG and DG-IWG. GEOTHERM-FORA was created to facilitate the implementation of the DG-IWG implementation plan and the execution of the ETIP-DG roadmap, with an update of the SRIA and Vision. Furthermore, the project will ensure that DG-IWG and ETIP-DG have sufficient data, tools and procedures to enable them to make informed discussions and strategic decisions to productively advance geothermal energy.
