Installed at the Port of Pisa the Wave Radar, the system for coastal monitoring that, by analyzing the data acquired by a common navigation radar and based on powerful calculation algorithms, provides, in real time and with high precision, the measurement of the wave motion of the sea (in terms of height, length and period of the dominant waves), the surface current field and the bathymetry of the seabed in a radius up to 3 nautical miles. The study will provide extremely useful information for the study of coastal dynamics, to understand the causes and effects of coastal erosion and the interactions (reflection, refraction and diffraction) of waves with coastal infrastructure. A project of the Institute of Geosciences and Earth Resources of the CNR, which also involves the Migliarino, San Rossore, Massaciuccoli Natural Park.
