IGG Facilities:
  • One Bruker-AXS SMART-APEX single-crystal diffractometer with a CCD detector (shared with the Dipartimento di Scienze della Terra of the University of Pavia). Standard working radiation: Mo Kα.

  • Three single-crystal diffractometers Philips PW1100 working with a locally modified software (FEBOPV) for fast and accurate X-ray analysis and data collection, especially designed for rock-forming minerals. Standard working radiation: Mo Kα.

A furnace designed for Philips PW1100 goniometers allows X-ray analysis and data collection up to T = 1000 °C and 2 theta = 58°.

Research and service:

  • Phase identification from unit-cell parameters.

  • Structure solution and refinement at room temperature (theta max.= 67°).

  • Mineral systematics and crystal chemistry.

  • X-ray analysis and structure refinement at high temperature (up to T = 1000 °C and theta = 29°).

  • Studies of thermal expansion and phase transition in the same range of temperature.

  • Phase identification and quality control from X-ray powder diffraction.

  • Preparation of single crystals (used for X-ray analysis and structure refinement) for EMP and SIMS analysis (mounting in epoxy). Single or multiple mounting depending on request.
